Economic Report: Chicago business activity picks up in October, PMI report shows

The Chicago Business Barometer, also known as the Chicago PMI, rose to 68.4 in October from 64.7 in the prior month. It’s the strongest reading since July.

Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal forecast a decline to a 63.5 reading in October. 

The index is produced by the ISM-Chicago with MNI. It is released to subscribers three minutes before its release to the public at 9:45 am Eastern.

The Chicago PMI is the last of the regional manufacturing indices before the national ISM data for October is released on Monday. The ISM index rose to 61.1 in September from 59.9 in the prior month.
